Caring for dry hair: a simple routine that works
Published on July 23, 2026

Dry hair feels rough to the touch, looks "dull" and frizzes quickly. It is one of the most common hair concerns — and fortunately, there is plenty you can do about it in your daily routine. We cover the basics, with no miracle products.
Why hair feels dry
Hair feels dry when the outer layer (the cuticle) becomes a little rougher and holds less moisture and oil. Heat (blow-dryer, straightener), frequent washing and sun can all make it worse. The solution is not a complicated routine, but a few calm habits.
1. Wash more gently
Choose a mild shampoo without SLS and sulphates, and don't wash your hair every day if it isn't necessary. That way you leave more of the natural oils that keep your hair supple. A shampoo with nourishing ingredients often already makes a difference.
2. Use a conditioner or a mask
This is the biggest win for dry hair. A conditioner rounds off the routine and makes hair easier to detangle. Want to go further? Use a hair mask once a week: leave it on a few minutes longer for extra care.
3. Pamper the lengths and ends
The ends are the oldest and dry out the fastest. A few drops of hair oil or serum on the lengths — not on the scalp — keep them supple and add shine. Handy on the go or after styling.
4. Go easier on heat
Dry on a low setting, don't use the straightener every day, and let your hair air-dry now and then. Small habits, a big difference in the long run.
