Choosing a tinted lip balm: what to look out for?

A tinted lip balm is one of those products that make your routine simpler. Colour and care in a single step, without the precision of a lipstick. But what should you look out for when you are after a natural version?

What is a tinted lip balm?

It is a lip balm with a hint of colour. Unlike a lipstick, it usually gives a subtle, sheer tone rather than a covering colour — perfect for a natural look or for days when you prefer to keep things understated. Many people wear it as "no-makeup makeup".

Where does the colour come from?

In natural lip balms, the tint often comes from plant-based sources. Think of beetroot extract, radish or even sweet potato for the warmer tones. That is a lovely difference from synthetic dyes, and it fits with skincare that has short, clear ingredient lists.

What to look out for?

  • Nourishing oils and waxes — such as plum kernel oil or candelilla wax, which keep the lips supple.
  • A non-sticky texture — so you can wear it comfortably all day.
  • Labels such as ECOCERT or COSMOS if natural origin matters to you.
  • Vegan and not tested on animals, if that suits you.

How do you apply it?

Apply it directly to the lips, as often as you like. For extra shine, you can also wear it over an ordinary lip balm. Simple and quick — and that is exactly its charm.

An example from our selection

The Lip Gloss Balm by LUUV in the shade Faded Pink combines colour, shine and care. The natural tone comes from beetroot, radish and potato, and the brand won two silver awards with it. ECOCERT/COSMOS-certified and 100% vegan.
